Each figure is then placed in a large traditional red brick oven/kiln that is heated naturally by wood. Individual Catrina figures are fired and cured for several hours. Once properly cured and dried the individual sculptures and their components(accents) are hand painted with a mixture of life-like colors that compliment the raw emotion / look / style or to detail and or extent, depending on the commissioned work. Marcos Perez is the lead sculptor and painting artist for each original Catrina figure.
